A Y-necklace can have the right neck length and still place its lowest stone somewhere you did not expect. The important distinction is between the wearable path around the neck and the additional hanging drop. Check them separately, then try the combined silhouette with the clothes you plan to wear.
This guide uses the MISSISSI Vine Lariat to make that distinction practical. Its dimensions are selected made-to-order design targets, rather than measurements of a completed necklace.
The diagrams in this guide are generic educational illustrations, not product photographs or scale drawings.
Start with two separate measurements
The wearable circumference follows the complete necklace path, including the intended clasp and connecting fittings. It helps you discuss where the necklace itself will sit. The hanging drop starts at the central junction and continues below that path. It needs a second measurement because changing the circumference also changes where the junction lands.
For Vine Lariat, the current starting targets are a 42 cm wearable circumference, approximately 16.5 inches, and an additional 45 mm drop. The terminal marquise diamond has a separate approximate target of 9 × 4.5 mm. That stone dimension describes the terminal stone, not the length of the whole vine.
Do not combine 42 cm and 4.5 cm into a new necklace circumference. They describe different directions in the design. Ask for an annotated drawing that identifies the beginning and end of each measurement before finalizing the order.
Find the junction before judging the terminal
Use a necklace you already own that rests where you like. Measure its full wearable path, including its clasp, and note where its front center sits on you. Wear it with your intended neckline rather than relying on a bare-neck mirror view alone.
Then hold a short paper strip below that center to explore a possible hanging length. This is a visual planning aid only: it cannot reproduce the weight, articulation or drape of the finished jewelry. A clear front photo and a note describing the preferred endpoint can be more useful to your jeweler than saying that you want the necklace “slightly longer.”
For a Y design, specify whether you mean a lower junction, a longer hanging section, or both. Each request changes a different part of the silhouette.

Check the neckline in motion
An open V or scoop can provide space for the descending line, but the useful test is the actual garment. A neckline may intersect the vine when you sit, lean forward or turn your shoulders even if it clears the terminal when you stand still.
- Check where the fabric edge meets the junction and the lowest stone.
- Notice whether a collar or decorative seam competes with the hanging section.
- If layering, keep a second pendant out of the same drop area during the fit review.
- Compare both standing and seated views with your usual posture.
There is no universal neckline depth that works for everyone. Your proportions, the garment and the necklace’s final construction all affect the result. Choose the placement you want before asking for a length adjustment.

What to confirm for Vine Lariat
Vine Lariat uses white lab-grown diamonds. A round-diamond necklace meets two marquise-shaped leaves at its Y junction; the descending vine combines round accents and leaf shapes before reaching a vertical marquise terminal. A marquise has two pointed ends, so the terminal should not be described as pear-shaped.
The current metal choices are 14K yellow gold, 14K white gold, 18K yellow gold, 18K white gold and platinum PT950. The chosen material applies to the complete necklace. A white-metal visualization by itself cannot tell you which alloy is pictured.
Ask for the final wearable length, junction-to-terminal drop, selected stone dimensions, connections and clasp to be confirmed together. The listing does not specify total diamond carat weight or finished metal weight, and an image cannot establish either. If documentation matters to you, confirm which selected stones it covers and what will accompany your order.
A concise brief to send your jeweler
Record your preferred wearable length, the desired position of the junction, and the endpoint of the hanging vine. Add the neckline you expect to wear and any layering plans. Ask whether a requested change affects the layout, price or preparation time before ordering. This gives the discussion a clear starting point without treating a visualization as a fit guarantee.
Frequently asked questions
Does a 42 cm Y-necklace include the drop?
For Vine Lariat, 42 cm is the target wearable circumference. Its approximate 45 mm hanging-drop target is additional. Always check how a particular seller defines its measurements.
Will the same length sit at the same height on everyone?
No. Use the stated length as a starting point and review it against a necklace you wear comfortably. Body proportions and final drape affect the position.
Can the drop be changed independently?
Discuss the request before ordering. A change may require a revised layout, stone selection or construction; availability and any price or timing change must be confirmed.
