Open Oval Diamond Earrings: Frame, Space and Movement

An open oval earring has two outlines to choose: the outer gold frame and the pear-shaped diamond inside it. For a balanced result, review the space between them as carefully as the stone itself. The pear should remain visually separate from the lower frame, and the front, side and rear views should describe the same construction.

MISSISSI’s Pear Lab-Grown Diamond Open Oval Drop Earrings use a round diamond stud above an elongated polished oval. A pear-shaped lab-grown diamond hangs inside that oval. This guide explains what to compare when deciding whether that framed silhouette suits your preferences.

1. Choose the relationship between stone and frame

Start with the straight-on view. Trace the pear’s pointed top, curved sides and rounded base, then look at the remaining open space. A relatively generous opening makes the gold outline easy to read; a closely filled opening directs more attention to the diamond. Neither relationship supplies a universal “correct” proportion. The useful question is which one gives the visual balance you want.

For this design, the pear hangs freely with clear space beneath it. Treat that gap as part of the design you are selecting. If you request a different center stone, ask to review the revised outline before agreeing to it. Increasing stone weight alone does not establish whether the new pear will fit the same opening in the same way.

2. Separate an oval drop from a hoop

The oval is the decorative lower frame. The listed fitting is a post-and-back stud, with an articulated drop below. If you usually buy hoops that pass through the piercing, this difference matters: ask about the post position and back rather than assuming that the oval opens as a hoop clasp.

A side or rear view should make the upper fitting and the suspension points understandable. Use it to ask where the earring sits relative to the earlobe, how the frame hangs and how the inner pear is attached. A front image alone cannot answer all three questions.

3. Ask for a movement review at the appropriate stage

The intended effect includes movement inside an open outline. Before ordering, ask which design views can be supplied and whether a finished-piece movement check will be available before dispatch. In that check, look for the pear remaining distinct from the surrounding frame as the earring turns, and compare the left and right earrings together.

Rendered still images illustrate the intended construction. They do not measure clearance during movement or prove how a finished pair will behave. Any construction change or requested adjustment should be confirmed with the jeweler, rather than inferred from an attractive angle.

4. Keep the diamond specification separate from the outline

The current W14 listing specifies a 1.00 ct pear-main production target per earring, or 2.00 ct combined for the two pear mains. The round stud accents are additional; 2.00 ct is not the confirmed total diamond weight of the finished pair. The listed white-diamond sourcing target is E color/VVS clarity, with the actual selected stones confirmed before production.

Available metal options are solid 14K yellow gold and solid 14K rose gold. No grading report is promised for this design. If documentation, exact dimensions or finished weight affect your choice, confirm those points before placing an order.

Your pre-order checklist

  • Do I prefer this amount of open space around the pear?
  • Have I reviewed front, side and rear views of the same version?
  • Are the post, back and suspension details clear?
  • Have the selected stone dimensions and any requested adjustments been confirmed?
  • Do I know which final checks will be available before dispatch?

See the open oval earrings and current options or ask the Jewelry Concierge about a specific proportion or fitting. For broader wear planning, begin with the dimensions of a pair you already enjoy wearing rather than estimating millimeters from a rendered image.
